Tonight (Thursday), the IDF attacked dozens of military targets belonging to the Iranian Quds Force in Syrian territory using IAF fighter jets.

As part of the widescale attack, Quds Force intelligence centers, Quds Force logistical command centers, a Quds Force military center and a Quds Force logistical center in Al-Kiswah, as well as an Iranian military base north of Damascus were attacked. Additional targets included Quds Force ammunition depots in the Damascus International Airport, intelligence systems and outposts associated with the Quds Force, watchtowers, military posts and munitions in the buffer zone. In addition, the Iranian missile launcher responsible for the missiles fired on Israeli territory tonight was destroyed.

The IAF attacked following an attack on Israel performed by Iranian aerial defense systems in spite of Israel’s warning. In retaliation, the IDF attacked a number of aerial interception systems (SA-5, SA-17, SA-22, SA-2) belonging to the Syrian military. All IAF aircraft returned to their airbases safely.

The Israeli attack followed the rockets launched by the Iranian Quds Force towards the IDF’s outpost line in the Golan Heights. None were injured in the Iranian attack, no damage was caused, and no missile hits were detected in Israel’s territory.

The Iranian attack on Israel tonight is more decisive proof of the intention behind the Iranian military establishment in Syria, and the danger it poses on Israel and stability in the region.

Israel’s home front is in routine activity, with school and agricultural work proceeding as usual.

The Largest Operation in Syria Since 1974
“Last night, the IAF performed a widescale operation in Syria. This was the biggest operation performed in Syrian territory since 1974”, stated a senior IAF service member tonight (Thursday). “In less than two hours, we attacked over 70 Iranian targets in Syria. All of the designated targets were attacked. The attack was performed following an Iranian terrorist attack performed by the ‘Quds Force’ led by Qasem Soleimani. This event was a direct attempt at attacking Israel planned by Iran. The attempt was prevented and we responded strongly”.

“During the attack, over 70 missiles were fired at us. Our Aerial Defense Division was well prepared for all possible scenarios and successfully intercepted every missile. Dozens of aircraft participated in the operation, carrying various types of munition. The sorties were performed in challenging weather during the nighttime. We relied on military intelligence when planning the attack. We knew about their intention to harm Israeli civilians and ensured that every base prepared for the scenario while we attempted to prevent the Iranian attempts. We have high-quality intelligence capabilities and we follow all activity in the theatre”.

“Initial debriefs found that the operations were successful”, added the senior service member. “We look ahead, drawing conclusions right away and staying prepared for any scenario alongside the military intelligence units. The IAF will continue to preserve its freedom of action, acting against munition transportation and the Iranian military establishment in Syria. Two days ago, we attacked a launcher which attempted to fire rockets at Israel, relying on military intelligence we received before. The Iranians planned again. We did not detect the launcher until it fired last night. We attacked shortly after. Every battery that fires at us will be destroyed. The IAF and military intelligence units have the ability to arrive at any location and respond to any threat”.

“The Iranians are motivated to bring their aerial defense batteries into Syria, and we know how to take care of those. Yesterday, dozens of our aircraft flew in challenging conditions. We were coordinated with Russia and the United States and they were updated regarding our activity. Every Syrian battery that threatens us will be attacked. We assume that the Iranians have rockets with a range of over 40 kilometers and we are prepared for them as well”.

“We Acted Against Iranian Ticking Bombs”
“The Quds Force payed a high price and it will take the Iranians a long time to recover”, stated Brig. Gen Ronen Manelis, the IDF Spokesperson. “For several weeks, the IDF was in the midst of widescale operation against the Quds Force’s attempts to attack Israel. We acted several times against Iranian ticking bombs and succeeded at preventing a number of terrorist and Iranian attacks during the last month”.

“The Quds Force, led by Qasem Suleimani, attempted to cause harm to Israel and failed”, added the IDF spokesperson. “20 rockets were fired by Hezbollah and military Shias using Iranian munition as instructed by the Quds Force, all under Iranian command. None of them hit Israel. Four were intercepted by the ‘Iron Dome’ weapon system while the rest fell in Syrian territory. The types of munition used were ‘Grad’ and ‘Fajr 5’ rockets, 30-40 kilometers from Damascus”.

The IDF will continue to operate in a determinate matter in opposition to the Iranian military establishment in Syria. The IDF holds the Syrian regime responsible for the actions performed in its territory, and warns it against taking action. The IDF is highly prepared for various scenarios, and will continue to do whatever it takes to ensure the safety of Israel’s civilians.
