The absorption of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) "Eitan" in the IAF occurred in February 2010 and since then the crew has worked to create a new UAV squadron following planning objectives. During the ceremony, the head of the squadron, Lt. Col. S., presented the flag of the squadron, making him the first squadron commander.
"I was excited and proud to be a part of the first command of the "Eitan squadron", said Lt. Col. S. "Few times in our lives are we able to give so much to the security of the State of Israel and be a part of the founding of a new squadron in the IAF. There is nothing more satisfying than the joy of creating something out of nothing. To the crew members, I am certain in your capability to lead this squadron in operations and to stand up to the challenges that will come before us".
The commander of the base also addressed the status of opening a new squadron at the base. The squadron will join the "Baz" (F-15) planes squadron and the "Yasur" (Sikorsky CH 53) helicopter squadrons.
"The term ‘squadron' is the responsibility for fulfilling the expectations of the citizens of the State of Israel, the execution of our assigned missions, and to continue to preserve our heritage", said Brig. Gen. E. "The squadron commander, officers and soldiers of the squadron - the moment that you became a squadron is a very significant moment. There is a long and complicated path before you, full of challenges and the next goal is to achieve operational capability. According to your actions thus far, I am certain that we will achieve that goal soon".
